THE PEOPLE OF MYANMAR NEED OUR HELP

Walk in the footsteps of St Ignatius in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Myanmar.

St Ignatius described the ideal leader as living with “One Foot Raised” ready to step forward and respond to human need and suffering in the world.

Right now, Myanmar is in crisis. The situation is dangerous, violent and unpredictable. Access to basics like education, healthcare and employment is severely limited.

One-third of Myanmar’s children and youth are not enrolled in school. And now, Myanmar’s young people (men 18-35; women 18-27) are being forced to join Myanmar’s brutal military who have taken over the country.

While the youth and people of Myanmar are fighting for their lives and futures, let's walk in solidarity with them and show them they are not alone.

Walk as a school, parish or a group of friends or as an individual.

Choose your distance

  • 2km - Walk for Education. The average distance children walk to school in Myanmar
  • 4km - Walk for Shelter. One of the camps Jesuit Mission works in is just 4km over the border in Thailand
  • 10km - Walk for Peace. Inya lake in Yangon is 10km in circumference and offers a space for recreation and peace
  • 18km - Walk for Justice. Young men and women aged 18 and above are being forced into Myanmar's military

On 31 July, St Ignatius Day, thousands of Australians will walk for the people of Myanmar. Sign up to walk, or get creative and set your own challenge.
