YOUR IMPACT

Khine's story

You can make a significant impact on individuals like Khine and families affected by forced military service in Myanmar.

Khine, a young girl on the verge of turning 18, faces the haunting uncertainty of forced military conscription. Before the turmoil, her life was filled with dreams of becoming a nurse and serving her community. However, the conflict disrupted her education, shattered her family's peace, and forced them to flee their village.

Your support can provide essential relief to families like Khine's, offering hope for a better future amidst the chaos.

Your donation can help ensure access to education, relief, and stability for those affected by the crisis in Myanmar. Together, we can make a difference and bring light to the lives of those in need.

Denpo's story

Fourteen-year-old Denpo has always been a good student. Born in Myanmar, he excelled in his studies and especially loved studying Burmese. But his education came to an abrupt halt when his family was forced to flee Myanmar to escape the conflict.

Living conditions in the camps for displaced people are extremely tough. Recovering from the trauma of having to escape from their home and ongoing conflicts in Myanmar, families have very limited access to education and minimal job opportunities.

Since arriving at the border camps in March 2023, Denpo’s family has been receiving social support. Denpo has been enrolled in school run by Jesuit Mission's partner.

Happy to once again have the opportunity to learn, Denpo is thriving – even in the difficult circumstances. “I have made many friends and I love studying,” Denpo says. “In the future I want to be a school principal.

Your compassionate support will help bring opportunities to out-of-school children and young people at risk, also reaching displaced children living with disabilities.

Together, with One Foot Raised we can help deliver vital education for Myanmar's displaced children.

Maiah's story

Maiah’s family has spent over 27 years living in a refugee camp with over 8,000 displaced people on the Thailand-Myanmar border. Maiah and her three younger siblings have known no other home.

As the conflict in Myanmar continues to displace vulnerable communities, your support is building better foundations for family’s like Maiah’s, who wait tirelessly for resettlement or safe return to their homes.

With help from Jesuit Mission supporters like you, Maiah, now 21, has secured employment as a teacher through the ‘Sustaining education for Burmese Refugees’ program run by our local partner

Your fundraising efforts can help train and pay teachers in the camps for displaced people. “Teaching helps me serve my community and inspire my younger siblings,” says Maiah, who has become the sole income earner for her family. Together, we can improve opportunities and quality of life for Myanmar's women, men and children.
